Kathy Boyd Fellure and her daughter,
Jennifer Fellure co-founded Amador Fiction Writers Critique Group in December of 2007. The local newspaper, The Ledger Dispatch, ran an article written by Scott Thomas
Anderson on Wednesday, November 28th stating the new group's goals of writing, critiquing and submitting for publication.There was an overwhelming response from the local community.
The group originally met at the Fellure home in Ione for the first nine months, then moved their bi-monthly meetings to Hein & Co Bookstore in Jackson. Transition and growth eventually relocated AFWCG back to their roots in Ione when Clark's Corner opened for business. More than a coffee house, Clark's offered a platform stage; perfect for future literary reads and wing back chairs with coffee cup ottomans creating an ambiance well suited to inspire future great works of written art.
AFWCG writes in a variety of genres - screen writing, historical, children's picture and board, fantasy, sci-fi, contemporary literary, mystery, romance, young adult, and poetry. The group meets every other Monday evening to critique manuscripts and discuss business. Members attend writers conferences, seminars, workshops and reads to hone their writing skills and keep abreast of the constantly changing writers market. Some of the conference favorites are: Mt. Hermon Christian Writers, Squaw Valley Community of Writers, Redwood Writers Retreat, Christian Writers Guild, Gold Rush Writers Retreat, ACFW and SCBWI.
AFWCG networks with several other California writing groups: Manzanita Press,
Writers Unlimited, Willow Glen Writers Group, The Cliff Hangers, Foothill Scribblers aka The Aging Fruitcakes, Sacramento Christian Writers and Inspire Christian Writers.
AFWCG held their first annual literary event, a "Late Winter Read", on March 14
of 2009 at Clark's Corner, to standing room only.Guest reader, author of the newly
released novel, The Sacred Well, Antoinette May, made the evening interesting. An
"Early Spring Read" is scheduled at Clark's for April 3rd of 2010 ~ featuring our
new published author of the children's picture book, No, No, Nanette ~ Annette England Conway. Guest reader, author of The Color of Grace, Tonia Colleen, will also show her art. Pianist, Jake Guidi will open and close the evening. Clark's hosted A Poetry & Prose Read, A Season of Change, on September 10th, 2009, with AFWCG, guest, Scott Thomas Anderson and featuring our very own new children's author - Judy Layne and her book, "Hector's Flight to Friendship".
Our 2nd annual read, An Early Spring Read, was held at Clark's Corner in Ione on
April 3rd, 2010 with author/artist, Tonia Colleen Triebwasser as guest reader. Her art was exhibited for sale. Young and talented Jake Guidi was our pianist who sang amazing Italian opera, acappella to close the evening.
A Midsummer Night's Read, AFWCG's 3rd annual literary read is scheduled for June 4th at Clark's Corner at 6 pm. Guest reader to be announced in March. Jake Guidi is returning to play piano and sing for us.
